Our new membership renewal process is underway. It’s easy to forget when dues are up and it takes a lot of time reminding members of expired dues. Invoices for dues were mailed on September 1st.

Metro Solid Waste Code Change Public Workshop
On Thursday, September 3, Metro will be holding a public workshop to discuss proposed updates to Metro's solid waste code (Title V) that aim to bring greater consistency and flexibility in how Metro reviews and authorizes solid waste facilities and to bring greater transparency in how different waste facilities handle materials responsibly in protecting the environment and the public's health.
Metro staff will present information about these proposed changes and answer questions from those in attendance.
DEQ Announces 2015 Materials Management Grants
On September 15, 2015, DEQ will open its 2015 round of materials management grants for projects that prevent, recover, or reuse solid and household hazardous wastes. DEQ expects to award up to $500,000 in materials management and HHW grants to local governments from across the state in early 2016.
Recycler of the Year Lifetime Achievement Award: Julie Daniel
This award was given to Julie Daniel in recognition of her many years as a leader in sustainability. In 1996 Julie started working at BRING as a part-time administrative employee. In 1998, during a crucial transition period for BRING, she became interim general manager and then co-general manager. She was then hired as BRING’s first executive director in 2004.

Alice Soderwall Reuse & Waste Prevention Award Winner: Repair PDX
The Alice Soderwall Reuse & Waste Prevention Award honors individuals or nonprofit organizations that have gone beyond the norm to reuse materials and prevent waste and has made a significant impact on the community as a result. This year's award was presented to Repair PDX at the 2015 AOR Sustainable Oregon Conference on June 5 in Bend, Oregon.
