What does it mean to be culturally competent? And how can we as individuals and organizations move beyond competence to cultural fluency? A group of AOR members explored these questions together at a recent AOR workshop led by Maketa Wilborn, an organizational development consultant, facilitator, artist and educator.
When it comes to education, it’s tempting to make the most of every opportunity to address every detail of what, when, where and how to recycle. But honestly, only a few folks would welcome that level of detail. Most would feel overwhelmed.
AOR's second "On the Road Tour" was held on September 29 in Eugene at Lane Community College, Bring Recycling, and the Lane County Transfer Station. We had an intimate group of roughly 20 AOR members from all over the northwest. One member even joined us from Port Angeles, Washington!
Sustainable Oregon 2016, AOR’s 38th annual conference, will be held at the Double Tree Hotel at the Lloyd Center in Portland, Oregon on June 8-10.
We are expecting approximately 300 people representing a diversity of the recycling industry in Oregon and the Northwest. AOR wants to get your input on relevant and exciting speakers and session topics, and is now collecting session proposals.
Recycling 101, overseen by the Association of Oregon Recyclers and available online through Oregon State University’s Ecampus, is a non-credit professional development course designed to educate participants about recycling, waste prevention, and composting.
Our new membership renewal process is underway. It’s easy to forget when dues are up and it takes a lot of time reminding members of expired dues. Invoices for dues were mailed on September 1st.

AOR is recruiting members and non-members for a new marketing committee. We are looking for a few creative people to help guide AOR’s public image and communicate AOR’s value to the world! (Ok, maybe we could just start with the Northwest!)
This award was given to Julie Daniel in recognition of her many years as a leader in sustainability. In 1996 Julie started working at BRING as a part-time administrative employee. In 1998, during a crucial transition period for BRING, she became interim general manager and then co-general manager. She was then hired as BRING’s first executive director in 2004.
