On Wednesday, March 9th, about 30 people gathered to tour various reuse organizations around Portland. Education Committee and AOR Member Adam Gorske attended, and has provided a summary of the day's activities.

Living in Oregon we are fortunate to have a variety of ways to responsibly rid ourselves of our unwanted items. Thanks to some clever individuals the items we once cherished can continue to be loved; or at least find a better home than the landfill.

The Oregon Higher Education Sustainability Conference (OHESC) is a platform for empowering and inspiring change making, facilitating action, and for sharing, networking, and collaboration related to sustainability within Oregon's higher education institutions.

On Thursday, December 10th, over 130 passionate recyclers gathered at the McMenamins Kennedy School in Northeast Portland to examine the value of recycling in today's declining commodity markets. David Allaway of the Oregon DEQ kicked off the event with an in-depth commentary of John Tierney's early fall New York Times criticism of today's recycling efforts.

A group of AOR members explored these questions together at a recent AOR workshop led by Maketa Wilborn, an organizational development consultant, facilitator, artist and educator.

When it comes to education, it’s tempting to make the most of every opportunity to address every detail of what, when, where and how to recycle. But honestly, only a few folks would welcome that level of detail. Most would feel overwhelmed.
