Free Webinar | Designing Sharps Stewardship for the Circular Economy

Part of PSI’s Global Webinar Series: Sparking Conversations, Building Networks

Take-back programs provide safe collection and disposal of used household medical “sharps” (disposable needles, syringes, and lancets). They protect sanitation personnel, hospitality workers, and the general public from accidental needle sticks caused by sharps that would otherwise be littered in public spaces, placed in the trash, or flushed down the toilet. However, by containerizing sharps for proper disposal, take-back programs generate tons of plastic waste – a detriment to the environment and a wasted resource. Fortunately, sharps stewardship solutions pioneered in Europe show how take-back programs can be designed for the circular economy by reducing container waste.

This webinar will explore the regulations, challenges, and benefits associated with the reduction, reuse, and recycling of sharps containers in France and other European countries. Program experts will describe the status of multiple approaches and how each advances a closed-loop economy. There will be ample time for questions.
