Lane County leads Oregon in recycling as statewide rate falls to lowest level since 2000

The Department of Environmental Quality recently released an analysis of waste recovery in Oregon for 2018, the most recent year for which numbers are available.

Lane County recycled and composted 53.8% of its trash in 2018.

"Overall, Lane County residents and businesses sent 1,458 pounds of waste to the landfills per person, while 1,698 pounds of material per person was recycled, composted or converted to energy," according to Lane County Waste Management. "Metal recycling and food waste composting both increased – two categories that have the greatest greenhouse gas reduction potential."
