Tour Departs and Returns to Metro at 600 NE Grand Ave, Portland, OR
AOR Member: $65 | NonMember: $95 (price includes transportation and lunch)
This tour will take us south to Salem, where we will start the day at the Covanta Marion Energy-from-Waste facility, the only one of its kind in Oregon. followed by a tour of Garten Services Materials Recovery Facility a non-profit organization that provides vocational, day activity and retirement services for people with developmental disabilities and long-term mental illness.
We'll have lunch at Christos after which we will take a spin over to The Northwest HUB, a not-for-profit full service bicycle shop, bike reclamation program and training center. Proceeds from their cycling center directly serve neighbors in need of transportation who "purchase" a bike through service to the community. Volunteers help reclaim bicycles that would otherwise be scrapped or end up in the landfill.
We will end the day with a tour of Sparrow Furniture a reclaimed/repurposed furniture store that helps refugees to overcome barriers to employment by providing them with the opportunity for paid training and language acquisition in a business that crafts one of a kind and culturally inspired repurposed furniture, lighting and décor for the creative consumer.
This On the Road Tour can only accommodate 30 guests, so register early to guarantee a seat on the bus!
