In support of the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 12.3, which establishes a target to halve global food waste and reduce food loss by 2030, the G7 members have committed to facilitate the exchange of best practices and lessons learned in reducing food loss and waste as part of the G7 Alliance on Resource Efficiency. After a successful first webinar featuring efforts in the United States to combat food waste, the EU (Health and Food Safety Directorate-General of the European Commission) is organizing the second webinar of the series to showcase EU actions carried out in support of SDG 12.3.

Speakers will provide an overview of the main initiatives undertaken to prevent food loss and waste in the EU, touching upon areas such as waste prevention policy, food waste monitoring, food donation, date marking and research and innovation. Join this webinar for feature presentations from:

The European Commission: Food waste prevention is an integral part of the European Commission's Circular Economy Action Plan to stimulate Europe's transition towards a circular economy which will boost global competitiveness, foster sustainable growth and generate new jobs. As part of the EU Action Plan for the Circular Economy and in line with the EU's commitment to meeting the SDG 12.3 target for food waste reduction, the Commission is developing specific policy and tools to: support all actors in taking measures to reduce food waste without compromising food and feed safety; facilitate inter-sector co-operation; and promote sharing of best practice and results achieved. 

The REFRESH project: "Resource Efficient Food and dRink for the Entire Supply cHain" (REFRESH) is an EU research project taking action against food waste. 26 partners from 12 European countries and China work towards the project's goal to contribute towards Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 of halving per capita food waste at the retail and consumer level and reducing food losses along production and supply chains, reducing waste management costs, and maximizing the value from un-avoidable food waste and packaging materials.

The European Food Banks Federation (FEBA): FEBA is a network of 388 food banks which are committed to fight against food waste throughout the entire food supply chain (agriculture, manufacturing, distribution, and food service) and to help feed the most deprived in Europe. FEBA is a European non-profit organization and works in collaboration with 24 members and 4 project members in European countries. The network provides 4.1 million meals each day to 8.1 million most deprived people through 44,700 charitable organizations, with the help of 23,500 co-workers (88 percent volunteers).

All actors engaged in the prevention of food loss and waste from public and private sectors (public authorities, actors in the food value chain including food banks and other charities, environmental, consumer- and other NGOs) are kindly invited to participate in this webinar.
